Ever wonder how we can truly empower our children to become capable, confident individuals ready to take on life's challenges?
Parenting isn't just about solving problems or controlling behavior.
It's about nurturing skills and fostering growth. What if we focused more on teaching our children to navigate life's challenges themselves?
Here's a thought: Next time your child faces a difficulty, resist the urge to jump in and fix it. Instead, ask them, "What do you think you could do about this?" It's amazing how capable they can be when given the chance!
Remember, every "mistake" is a learning opportunity. When we celebrate their efforts and resilience, we're teaching them invaluable life skills.
And hey, don't forget to cut yourself some slack, too. We're all learning and growing alongside our kids. It's okay not to have all the answers - showing our children how to learn and adapt is a gift in itself.
Family Vision & Values Assessment
When was the last time you sat down with a paper and pen and thought about where your family is at with their skill development? We usually leave it up to the school system and our jobs to inform us how we are doing. Here is a creative idea for you to try!
Sit down with some writing tools and ask yourself: What are your visions & values for your family? What outcomes are you all trying to achieve? Things like…kindness and empathy, resilience, responsibility, fun, connection, friendship skills, emotional intelligence, etc.
Where is each family member relative to these visions & values? What are their strengths, and where are their growth opportunities?
You can even interview each family member and have them do a self-assessment and provide feedback on other family members.
We spend so much time parenting from a place of controlling behavior and fixing problems we forget to step back and look at the bigger picture. We forget to invite humility for ourselves and how we can grow as the leaders of our families. We don’t take the time to celebrate the wins.
Imagine if we could instead parent from a place of skill building, celebrating mistakes as growth opportunities, and empowering one another to grow more every day.
